Pre-design involves getting to know you, analyzing the building site, and developing a design program.
Symmetry will initially get to know you via our client questionnaire. The questionnaire allows us to understand your general requirements, such as a 3-car garage, 4 bedrooms and 5-1/2 baths, as well as your unique needs, perhaps a peloton room, golf simulator or speakeasy lounge.
Secondly, we like to tour your existing home, so we can understand how you live and identify what “is” and what “is not” working. Additionally, we will measure existing room sizes as a point of reference and will catalog important furniture pieces and artwork, so that we can custom fit those items into your new house.
Lastly, we will visit the site to analyze various conditions, such as solar orientation, desirable views, tree locations, utilities, site drainage and vehicular access.
Symmetry will also create a spreadsheet with a list of rooms and suggested room dimensions, which will establish a rough estimate of the total square footage under roof. Designing an efficient floor plan and monitoring the total square footage is the easiest way as architects to help control construction costs.
The pre-design phase concludes with a kick-off meeting where we will review the client questionnaire, square footage estimate, and any inspiration images which illustrate your personal style. Next, we draw.
